I learned some things about my parents yesterday that feel even more bitter and painful today. But then I learned a lot about who I am yesterday that's a little hard to swallow.

I've always believed in found family. Hug your loved ones close.

I'm painting a mural for my favorite tiny person, an eight year old powerhouse named Scottie, and it's one of my favorite art jobs ever.

Do you know what's amazing about life?

Even when the impossible happens, and even when you think your entire reality has changed, and even when you're haunted by memories of terrible things... wonderful stuff can and does still happen.

Over the last little while I've met people that I hope will be in my life for a very long time. I've seen my art in a new life. I've felt those amazing, champagne giddy feelings. And I've found a new sense of family.

It isn't perfect, and some things are truly hard. I'm worried about some things, and it's hard to have your life change so completely.

But the good outstrips the bad in a major, major way.

I'll be sketching at Phoenix Effect for most of the day. If you need a hug or a coffee or someone to talk to, come sit with me.

I just watched this movie and I feel weird about it. It's not really my kind of movie. Well, I guess I've seen a lot of movies like it. But still.

Does... anyone have any thoughts on it?

Hi everyone.

I painted the new mural outside the Phoenix Effect. You can't miss it. I'd love to know what you all think of it... Next time you're at the shop, please take a second to look at it. We worked really hard on it... and there are pieces of whole other worlds in it. If anyone like, sees themselves in it? I'd love to know.

When I say the word 'phoenix', what does that mean to you? Aside from the best coffee in town.

I can't believe NO ONE wanted to get beignets with me. I thought I would make friends! Have I guilted any of you into being my coffee friend now??

No??

Maybe I can use this for work purposes: I paint, and I'm very good at murals (you've probably seen something I've worked on, I've painted a few for the city). Do you need a mural? Do you want a mural? They're a great feature for co-working spaces or cool offices or daycares!! My rates are reasonable, I'm collaborative, and if you need it in a rush, I have plenty of artist friends I can recruit to help execute the design.

Any takers out there?

I've been daydreaming of beignets but I can't eat them alone, they're a social food. Someone take pity on me, an artistic loner with a heart full of pastry, and eat them with me?

Describe yourself in just one gif.

Previous Name: Jean Grey
Myth: X-Men new movieverse/MCU adjacent - Apocalypse
Past Life Information: Jean was a student at Xavier's school for those with mutant gifts. Her classmates tended to fear, distrust or dislike her because her mutant powers -- her telekinesis and especially her telepathy -- seemed out of control and bordering on frightening. Certainly, Jean has spent a lot of time being frightened by the depths of her power, how unknowable it is, how impossible it is to control. Plus, there's this force -- well, that's what it feels like -- this dark force that wants to consume her entirely. The force seems to emerge as part of her during a particularly intense battle, but it remains to be seen what the shape of this power means for Jean -- and for the world. Meanwhile, there's this guy, Scott Summers, who has caught her eye. Maybe that could be something, if they don't all die first.

Current Name: Katie Fry
Age: 24
Occupation: Artist and set designer
Personality: Katie doesn't actually mean to be a loner, it's just that she's so busy living inside her own mind. She's a daydreamer, and she's also that person who has imaginary conversations with everyone she knows and then gets a little ticked off if they don't respond according to the script Jean had invented on her own, like, in the shower or sitting on the bus. There's just so much in her own imagination to keep her company (classic introvert nonsense) that she sometimes forgets to let other people in. She's pretty content with that, though, and the friends she does have she loves dearly. She holds grudges and is moody, but she's also both pragmatic and kind: she's not going to sugarcoat bad news, but she will hold you after you receive it.

Background: Her whole life, Katie has been drawing, painting -- creating new stories and landscapes out of nothing. It's her favorite thing in the world. Her family is frequently baffled by her (they are NOT creative people) and they really want to know when she's going to stop playing around and get a real job. But the thing is, Katie would rather die. She had to support herself through her BFA at Tulane, working three jobs, but it was completely worth it. She wants to complete an MFA, too, but wants to save money first, although that's not exactly easy as an artist. She's fallen into set and costume design work for regional theater, which doesn't really pay but is fun, and she's had a couple DIY art shows, and she paints murals for the city and sometimes caricatures for tourists when the funds are getting low. She has a retail gig, but don't ask her about it. What matters most to her is her art.
